Read what other critics had to say:

First there was an opportunity……then there was a betrayal. Twenty years have gone by. Much has changed but just as much remains the same. Mark Renton returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud, Sick Boy, and Begbie. Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.

I have a very loud laugh ( so *they* said) and a penchant for cocktail rings (the bigger, the better). It would be wise not to test me on Sex and the City trivia. Funnel muffins are the way to my heart.

This review just angers me. These are supposed critics who don't understand a clearly understandable movie.
And it's not the same as the first in any way.

This review is not very good. The film is much better than how they're describing it. Maybe they don't understand the culture.

now maybe I'm alone on this one but I think trainspotting 2 will be great who cares if it's the same story just 20 years later, if it's not broken don't fix it rent or buy the original and rent or buy the second. don't listen to negative reviews if you as the viewer like it that's what counts .

It's quite simple guys. Despite everything, despite their desperate struggle for stability. Heroin was the best days of their lives and they can't get away from that.

I think Trainspotting 2 is the best movie of the year. Some of it may hit too close to home for some, as it doesn't "wallow in nostalgia", it criticizes wallowing in nostalgia. So the reviewer thinks Kelly MacDonald has become a "Soulless corporate lawyer", rather than someone who has moved on with her life and is a marker for Renton's lack of progress? To me, the point of the movie is to escape from the allure of nostalgia and live your life in the present moment. Begby in the movie doesn't learn that lesson, and pays the price for it. He just can't imagine letting go of his mistakes, or letting go of the idea of forcing others to pay for them. The rest of them learn to shed desires for revenge (Sick Boy), turn their experiences into a living (Spud), and embrace a masculinity that isn't toxic (Renton, returning home to his father). This is one of the best sequels in recent memory, and worth a second look.

What did you will happen when mark comes back? They're fucking drug addicts. They go back. It's a fucking nostalgia. You guys just want to puss over a movie. Piss over something else. T2 is amazing. You guys completely got it wrong

What a terrible review. Did you two even watch the movie? It's not a remake at all. I won't be stopping here again for a review.

I think this film is for addicts, not critics. If you have never struggled with substance abuse, there is a lot here that you wouldn't understand: places, people, they're all triggers. How the decisions you made on drugs have consequences beyond what you could fathom. Renton's stealing the bag had consequences, and it haunted all the characters. He then returns, his "choose life" has failed. He got the job, the wife, the house, the washing machine, and it didn't work. He still felt incomplete. So he returns, and the ultimate point of the movie is Renton's relapse. His returning fully to the world of Trainspotting, and once he does that. he finds himself in the same troubles as before. He is running through the streets being chased, as a consequence of his past decisions and his relapse. His relapse is the point I think. And Spud being the original author of the books was a lovely nod, and brought it all round circle. Spud ditches his habit and makes something of himself. It shows the differences between Renton and Spud. Spud chooses reality at the end of the second film, Renton chose to run away at the end of the first. I think it is a clear message: You cannot run away from consequences. And also, often those you consider to be your friends are the worst people for you. That's how I interpreted it. As I said, I think this film is for addicts.
