THR reports that New Line Cinema, which has been developing a Shazam movie for over a decade, has finally figured out the perfect approach. The studio under Warner Brothers will develop a Shazam movie alongside a separate Black Adam movie that will star Dwayne Johnson.

The move comes on the heels of last week’s “high-level” meeting with Johnson and DC Films co-head Geoff Johns, after which Johnson took to social media to promise “hope, optimism & fun.” There is no writer or filmmaker attached to Black Adam but THR’s sources say Shazam has a script being worked on by Earth to Echo writer Henry Gayden. A release date for both movies has not been set.

According to Variety, Traffic screenwriter Stephen Gaghan has been hired on to direct the Ubisoft adaptation of their game The Division. Based on one of the fastest-growing new video game franchises of all time, the movie will star Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain in the two lead roles. Set in New York City after the spread of a smallpox pandemic, gamers play as members of the Strategic Homeland Division, tasked with rebuilding the organization’s operations in the crime-ridden Manhattan. Ubisoft will now package the project in order to find a studio for release.

During a recent IMAX screening of xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, director D.J. Caruso revealed to Collider’s Steve “Frosty” Weintraub that he had entered talks to direct a third GI Joe movie back in 2015. Though the talks ended up stalling, and Caruso went on to helm xXx, he did try and mount a very different GI Joe movie, one that would include the Transformers.

Deadline reports that MGM has entered talks with Anne Hathaway to team with Rebel Wilson in Nasty Women, the new title for the remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The comedy gender-swaps the roles of the 1988 Frank Oz-directed film that starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine as con men who try to swindle an heiress. Hathaway and Wilson will play the scam artists, who compete to swindle a naïve tech prodigy out of his fortune. A release date has not been set.

The first trailer for Colossal starring Anne Hathaway has landed online. Directed by Open Windows helmer Nacho Vigalondo, the film features Hathaway as Gloria, a woman whose life is falling to pieces thanks to a series of poor life choices and too much booze. At the same time, a giant Kaiju starts popping up in Soeul, South Korea, destroying everything in its path. Gloria soon realizes that she shares a psychic connection with the monster and is threatening to destroy all of mankind.

Open Road Films has released the new trailer for Collide starring Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones. After a heist goes terribly wrong, Casey Stein is on the run from a ruthless gang headed by mob boss Hagen. Casey calls his former employer and drug smuggler to protect his long-time girlfriend Juliette before Hagen gets his hands on her. The movie also stars Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sir Ben Kingsley and opens in theaters on February 24.

  1. saw LA LA Land at the Vista and it just seemed right! Too bad they couldn't open the Rialto short term to screen this movie.

  2. I am a little bummed about best of the week going away, I always watch! 🙂 But I can understand if it is in similar reasons to why top10 disappeared (I want top10 back before best of the week!), and as someone who watches most everything on the channel, it isnt something I will suddenly feel like I am missing out on if I dont have it. That being said, the thing that I did get some of the most enjoyment out of was the portion, since I primarily consume your content on YouTube. That and of course Bloopers and Meme of the week! If you are replacing this with a behind the scenes video like Kristian was talking about a little while ago, or was it Campea? was it on Schmoes? somewhere someone mentioned doing a kind of behind the scenes video, or a 'this week at Collider', I am definitely stoked for that, and feel like Bloopers and Meme of the week could perhaps still be a part of that!

  3. WOW! I think it's obvious that DC has no clue what they're doing. They're just throwing ideas out and seeing what sticks. DC is squandering such an opportunity to stand out from Marvel………well, they are but not in a good way.

  4. UHHHHH Was The Division even regarded as a "good game" ? Wasn't' that the one that starred Bobby/Iceman from the Xmen films?

  5. envisioning D. Johnson shouting "Shazam" in cinema will give me goosebumps. A character development for the defender of the Rock of eternity, no pun intended.

  6. Warcraft was amazing it's just a shame people wanted to jump straight to Arthas! No patience these days for the build up it would have been the godfatehr of video game movies a beginning middle and end

  7. Disagree with Rocha completely, on Pacific Rim and Blade Runner beating Kingsman irrespective of which one is better bcoz Blade Runner is not well known to the mainstream audience

  8. Holy shit, could John Rocha have sounded anymore pretentious, and patronising, when responding to that mailbag question about La La Land?

  9. The idea that Shazam/Capt Marvel "doesn't even have Green Lantern's level of recognizability" is ludicrous. Shazam/Capt Marvel has a much larger pop culture footprint than Green Lantern. Until recent years (2001 when Justice League: The Animated Series began), Green Lantern's only breakthroughs into the larger pop culture were the one single season of Challenge of the Superfriends and a 1984 Super Powers action figure. Captain Marvel, on the other hand, starred in a serial back in the 40s, had a live action TV series in the 1970s, and an animated series in the early 80s. The character appeared in live action long before Ryan Reynolds ever wore a Green Lantern ring on a VERY popular tv series that was so popular that it led to a spinoff (Almighty Isis). While it's true that the recent years have been kind to Green Lantern with his inclusion in the JLU series, a live action movie and his own animated series, Captain Marvel by far has the larger footprint.

  10. they went weak on Black Adam vs Superman…if it didn't work for the Rock on his Scorpion King character…Why is Perry even on this show…she doesn't know anything about any video game, comic, sci-fi character about hafe time…

  11. ive never thought about it but transformers does take itself too seriously, I guess I confused inappropriate jokes with actual humor. hmmmm oh well still love the franchise and will be there opening weekend to see the last knight.

  12. They are probably going to do an origin story for the power of Shazam in the first movie and what caused him to fall out of grace with the wizard Shazam before he is stripped of his powers because of greed and then in the second movie, the power will be passed to Billy Batson who becomes the new Shazam and Black Adam has a beef with him and becomes a villain in the second movie. Interesting because, Only real DC comics fans would know this story though from the New 52 and Black Adam's origin could have been told in flash backs but I guess they want to show him first as the hero who fell from grace.

  13. This is maybe my favorite lineup of hosts. I wish we had a few more days a week with this crew. Mix in a KH or Schnepp or Ellis and its gold. JJ adds almost nothing to the show and Campea is best in small doses.

  14. They have to Get GI-Joe right before we start talking about a crossover…For me personally I've been done with Transformers sense the second movie. Mr. Bay you have destroyed my child hood memories please don't make another movie. I loved the crossover in the marvel comics tho.

  15. it's the same as Luke, to keep the moment as a surprise, like with LUKE – not as in will he wont he, but how he shows up as a surprise. was with the nonsense replies to a DC question?
